Aye, and I have noticed that Apple was very smart to market their line as notebooks rather than laptops. A notebook you put on a table and have less of a chance of getting another "McDonald's hot coffee burns lap" suit. :eek:

I would just like to note (yes, pun intended) that all computer manufacturers refer to their portable computers as notebooks. The only people that still call them laptops are consumers.

initially, the way it was written it seemed (to me at least) that an armed trap would be triggered by our presence in the room at the end of a round
in that case you don't want to end a round with a move to a new room because you expose yourself to the trap without being able to check for it. (so move-explore >> explore-move)
Also it implied you could 'run' through a room in turn1 of a round without triggering the trap in that room (move-move).
it was then explained that an armed trap is triggered only by leaving the room, at any turn
this means that we can go into a new room and end our turn, and it is safe as long as someone explores the room before leaving next turn (so move-explore ≅ explore-move)
that's why splitting can be productive:
say me and you are in room A, unexplored, as a group.
we split and in your turn1 you explore the room, in my turn1 i move to room B.
then in your turn2 you move to roomB and in my turn2 i explore roomB.
then we merge again.
in this way we have both moved from room A to room B, and we have explored both rooms, while if we moved as a group we could only explore one of the two rooms.
the downside is that if we find treasure, it only applies to the discoverer's party and not to everyone.

5. The tablet computer. The reason the tablet computer has been a failure is because the writing interface isn't very good yet, and because the damned things are the same size and weight as a notebook, so there's little point in dumping the notebook for a tablet. A smaller form factor with the same power, but one that it a little more usable and compelling than the UMPC might be very successful.
I think the reason tablets have failed is that they haven't got their own identity... people want it to do what their laptop does but without a keyboard. Of course, as you say, that means the writing interface has to be foolproof.
If Apple can identify or create a new market, it could be very interesting.

Um, what do you think Apple does? Have you been in an Apple Store lately? I'll tell you, its like a high school pep rally. Even Apple admits that the majority of their revenue comes from iGadgets, not Macs. That is, the majority of Apple's revenue comes from devices that cost less than $500. I am very excited to see what Apple is going to make of a mobile phone (or whatever it will be). iChat integration would be great, but even greater still, is an EASY way to use iChat to communicate with the rest of the world. Not just MSN, but Yahoo and a host of other services, why don't they all sit down and either use all formats, or agree upon a common standard so that everyone can contact eachother, just like we can do by using a phone! Which is where we started this thread about. About that 'PC guy' remark, Apple is in the Mac business when it comes to computers. Not PC's. (Yes I know a Mac is a PC in a sense, but it's far more developed, and sexy, yes I said it, sexy!Macs are sexy, and they also work well for those who are not sensitive to that appeal)

One of the main bonuses of a paid service is that it limits the number of users so they can get an email such as joe.blogs@me.com. When services become free, more people sign up until people have to settle for Joe.M.blogs5739@me.com, and then the service looses its upper-market feel.

So I just bought a new 4 core Sandy Bridge iMac tonight and now this news breaks. Is ARM actually building anything in any way shape or form that competes with the Intel X86 stuff right now or is this just vaporware at this point?

well i just placed my order for a 15" MBP 2.0 base model w/ an iPod 60GB
i chatted with a rep and pointed out that i have 14 days to return. i have 30 days to submit the iPod rebate (which requires a upc cut from MBP box)
so my status shows ship date of the 19th and arrival of the 26th!
so kinda in a pickle with dates but the 60GB will only cost me $120 in the end.
BTW, Im a first time mac buyer even though ive used em for years at work!

If you want to install it on a different machine you must uninstall the original copy first.
The Mac App Store says:
"You can install apps on every Mac you use and even download them again."
That implies that if I go on a friend's computer for 5 minutes once a year I could install Lion on it for no charge.
Obviously Lion will not follow App Store conventions seeing as it isn't an app.

All it would take for me to become seriously interested in an Apple-branded phone would be for it to have an easy way to sync iCal and Address Book with my Mac, although if they're actually making one I assume they'll put some nano-sized music storage on it to keep it in line with the iPods.
