Let's not forget, Apple iOS encompasses more then just iPhones. If you included the iPad and iPod Touch which both run Apple iOS then Apple's market share is still ahead of Android.

Both this rumor and the recent rumor about the iOS devices moving to Intel as a CPU manufacturer (http://www.winbeta.org/?q=news/intel-build-next-generation-processor-ios-devices) are rumors about an upcoming Intel ARM processor it seems... These don't have to be taken separately, this can be the same rumor as Apple is moving to consolidate all their line-ups into 1 processor family and 1 processor vendor (meaning better volume purchases).
Let's not forget that Intel used to manufacture the StrongARM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StrongARM) line of processor after acquiring it from Digital Equipement Corporation, so they already have experience in this line of work.
How well would ARM laptops work ? Let's hope better than the ARM netbooks that are sold. I wouldn't trade my Intel laptop for one right now.

The current iMac's can't even run games at 2560x1440 very well, so an even higher resolution? Unless they want to stick a desktop Radeon 6950 (at least) in there, it just wouldn't work. Surely Apple sees how important gaming is with iOS and Steam?

It makes a lot of sense. Quietly cooling two CPUs, a high-end GPU, 8 DIMMs and multiple drives in such a form factor makes me a little dubious. That and it seems pure hearsay on the part of 9 to 5 mac.
Mods please don't lock this, discussion of Mac Pro related articles in the main news section is really hard to have as 90% of the posts are by people who have little interest or knowledge in the topic.
I like the idea (exists with other cases, and the one's I'm thinking of, such as offerings from SuperMicro, work very well).
My concern though, seems to be the same as yours. Specifically packing a workstation into a 3U enclosure. 4U or even 5U, fine, as there's sufficient space for full height PCIe cards and cooling (3U seems to tight though for a workstation that has to be planned thermally speaking with all slots filled).
Yet another sign Apple is going to kill the Mac Pro.
You'll see! With Final Cut Pro on it's deathbed there is no way the Mac Pro is sticking around!

I get the sarcasm. My issues aren't with the concept of the case that's usable as both a tower or rackmount though.
As far as the MP's continuation, it's to do with the direction Intel's going to meet enterprise customer requirements/requests that I've noticed (more cores than most workstation software can utilize, and the price is going up as a result). Add in Apple's margin on smaller unit sales vs. other workstation vendors, it doesn't look good.
TB further complicates the issue, particularly when a single die consumer desktop CPU releases with 8 cores (not to far away), as the iMac could be considered as a replacement (not ideal, but functional enough for quite a few users).
Keep in mind, creative professionals don't actually need ECC as the software's not based on recursion (worst case, flipped bits due to radiation cause a bad pixel here and there, not the entire image).

The desktop market has been exhausted and its time passed anywhere, so now it's all about mobile and portable computing.

But when you look to less developed nations, desktops still out-sell laptops due to more bang-for-the-buck (i.e. look at China; they're less likely to have more than one system, so they choose the desktop for more power at a lower cost = higher desktop sales currently). This will change over time, but by then, citizens of developed nations may be so poor, that we have to dump laptops and devices for desktops again. :eek: :D :p

Hot air rises, so the heat generated by the PSU will just rise and fill up the case.

The PSU doesn't run as hot as the CPU or GPU (hot air from the boards rising into the PSU doesn't do it any favors). Hot air off of the PSU heat sinks can be exhausted before it ever rises to the boards. More of a win-win.
Of course, by using baffling (separating the case into chambers), it won't matter that much anyway thermally speaking.
But even with baffles, the layouts are improved with PSU's located on the bottom IMO.

I think that Apple will introduce IOS 5 in June/July, when it introduces the iPhone 5 (assuming that's what they call it). If there is some aspect of ios 5 that they can't get ready until Fall, they may have an ios 5.3 update in the Fall. But holding off on ios 5 until the fall will simply make the iP5 less appealing...and introducing ios 5 when you don't have a product to sell is simply a waste.
And I don't buy the iPad 3 in the fall rumor, either.

Little problem with my TT car kit. My iPhone no longer automatically pairs with the car kit when I plug it in. I use to be able to turn BT on and plug it in the TT kit and it would pair in a few seconds. Now I have to manually pair the two by going into the BT settings on the iPhone.
Anyone else with this problem?

Everyone with an iphone is paying at least $840 a year for the privilege of using it, and if all you wanted was cell phone service you could pay half that.
Lets review a few things:
1) Standalone GPS units cost less than $99 today with interfaces similar to the TomTom software and they won't tie up your iPhone while navigating.
2) The hardware itself is far more expensive than it should be given the price point of standalone TomTom GPS hardware. I bought a TomTom GO 730 for about $139 brand new.
3) The Google Maps turn by turn navigation really brings competition that shows just how overpriced these GPS solutions are.

The Google Maps navigation software will be included with it soon making it an even better value, but for now the TomTom solution is still overpriced compared to TomTom's own hardware offerings.

I could see this happening. It would make sense to me to try and consolidate their iOS devices to one release cycle. iPod and iPhones are fairly close as it is, mid-summer and early fall. Would it be a big shock to move the new kid iPad and it's older siblings into one release? No.

If new monitors are introduced with built in isights, does this mean Apple will discontinue the standalone isight as all macs will now come with built in isights ? (presuming you buy Apples monitor)
Its certainly possible. I hope though that they upgrade the isight to higher res for pros and include an IR receiver in it. That way I can mount it anywhere around my big TV and dont need my mac visible to use it.
Another possiblity is that they will put out a smaller model designed to be used with an iPod as well turning the ipod into a camera/video camera.

Nice!!! Most likely you made a wise decision to purchase your addional RAM and HD from a third party. Apple requires arms and legs for their optional upgrades. ;)

Looks like something else being blown out of proportion. It makes me laugh seeing people make threats of switching to another competitor, I wouldn't have responded or just replied "Ok". Most of these people have no idea of how this location thing works, they just hear the news and then their mind starts working overtime and they panic and want an explanation or something free haha.

Mobileme is certainly worth more than free. Apple doesn't scrape your emails and other data to target adds at you a la Google.
